The United Methodist Women is an organization within the Methodist Church. We are a mission organization with a vision of turning faith, hope, and love into action on behalf of women, children, and youth around the world. We have four individual circles that meet once a month. One group meets in the morning and three groups meet in the evening. We have a meeting of the entire UMW four times a year. All women are welcome to attend any of our meetings.
The UMW at Memorial make a difference locally by supporting various organizations throughout our community including but not limited to A Child’s Place, Bethlehem Center, Crisis Assistance, Battered Women’s Shelter, and Loaves and Fishes. We have a friendly yearly competition to see which circle group collects the most food for local charities. The UMW hosts parties or game nights for residents at UMAR, Aldersgate and Wilora Lake (now Brookdale). We also provide meals to families in the church who have lost loved ones and host the Parade of Cookies during the Christmas season. The UMW are responsible for the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day bulletins at Memorial, and this year we will be adding a Grandparent’s Day bulletin in September.
The UMW at Memorial also takes part in district and conference events including mission studies, prayer breakfasts, and spiritual retreats. We make a difference nationally and internationally by providing layette kits, health kits, birthing kits and flood buckets for UMCOR to serve women and children with inadequate health care or victims of natural disasters.
